Discount Fares

InterCity fares offer great value - every day, everywhere throughout their extensive network. In addition, children, students, backpackers, and senior travellers, can all travel at reduced rates on selected services.

All Fares and Saver Fares are subject to individual cancellation and refund policies.

Discounts are provided off Flexi Fares on selected services:

Infants
Less than 3 years old - Free, provided infants do not take up a seat, they sit on an adult's lap.

Children
3 to 12 years - Up to age 6 must travel with an 18+ guardian. Older children can travel as unaccompanied minors, if conditions are met.

Students
Secondary and Tertiary - Valid and current student ID cards required for student fares. Proof of age may be asked for from younger students without a student ID.

Backpackers
eg. YHA, BBH, ISIC, Hostelling International and more - Correct ID card required when purchasing and when boarding for backpacker discounts.

Seniors
Age 60+ years - New Zealand Citizens only. ID, SuperGold Card or proof of age may be requested for golden age fares.

Fares from $1 Plus Booking Fee

InterCity provides at least one $1 fare on every InterCity bus service across New Zealand. These sell quickly and you may have to search ahead with different dates to get yourself this bargin.

Note that the $1 fares are non-refundable and not available on non-InterCity branded services.
